Maoist Divisional Commander Mallesh Surrenders to BSF in Chhattisgarh, Brings AK-47

Raipur, Chhattisgarh: In a major breakthrough against Maoist insurgency, Mallesh, a divisional committee member and supply team leader of the banned CPI (Maoist), surrendered along with other cadres at a BSF camp in Chhattisgarh’s Kanker district on Wednesday. The commander personally handed over an AK-47 rifle at the Chhote Bethiya camp, marking a significant step toward restoring peace in the conflict-affected region.

Formal Surrender Process Underway
According to police sources, Mallesh arrived at the camp accompanied by a group of villagers and expressed his desire to reintegrate into mainstream society. While the formal surrender procedures are still pending, local social workers and two journalists played a key role in persuading the cadre to give up arms. Authorities described this as an example of “community outreach” complementing security operations in Maoist-affected areas.

Under Security Forces’ Radar
Officials confirmed that Mallesh was an active member of the organization and had been a target of security forces. His personal documents are currently being verified. A BSF officer stated that he would be eligible for government rehabilitation programs, including assistance for reintegration into society and livelihood support, as per standard policies.

Local Residents Welcome the Move
The surrender has been welcomed by local communities, who hope it will reduce fear and open the door for development in remote areas long affected by Maoist influence. Union Home Minister Amit Shah has described the period from 2014 to 2026 as a “golden era” for India’s internal security and has emphasized the government’s commitment to ending Maoist insurgency.
