Promoting the Message “Adopt Millets, Save Nature” While Pledging Environmental Conservation, Balanced Population, and Sustainable Development

Ujjain: On the occasion of World Population Day, World Horse Day, and a Tree Plantation Ceremony, the Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Business Management (JNIBM), Samrat Vikramaditya University, Ujjain, in collaboration with the Bank of India and the Institute’s Management Hostel, organized a dignified symposium and tree plantation program on Saturday, July 11, 2026.
The event was initiated by Mr. Mayank Rathore, a distinguished alumnus of the institute and Chief Manager at Bank of India. Centered on the theme “Adopt Millets, Save Nature,” the program conveyed the message of environmental conservation through Sanskrit verses. Its primary objective was to promote awareness about environmental protection, balanced population growth, sustainable development, and India’s traditional nutritional practices.
The program was presided over by Prof. (Dr.) Arpan Bhardwaj, Vice-Chancellor of Samrat Vikramaditya University. In his presidential address, he emphasized that maintaining harmony between nature and human life requires every citizen to actively participate in tree plantation and incorporate millets (Shree Anna) into their daily diet. He highlighted that millets are highly beneficial for human health, environmental sustainability, and climate-resilient agriculture. The Vice-Chancellor also inspected the institute campus, appreciated the plantation drive, and urged everyone to ensure the regular care and maintenance of the planted saplings throughout the year.
The Chief Guest was Mr. Ajit Kumar Sharan, Zonal Manager, Bank of India, Ujjain Zone, while Mr. Mayank Rathore, Chief Manager of the Bank of India, Freeganj Branch, and a proud alumnus of the institute, attended as the Guest of Honour. Both dignitaries shared their views on environmental conservation, corporate social responsibility, and the importance of public participation in sustainable initiatives.
Joining virtually, Prof. (Dr.) Dharmendra Mehta delivered a lecture on “Sapling with Symposium,” highlighting the significance of various international observances in the context of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). He expressed heartfelt gratitude to Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Arpan Bhardwaj, Mr. Mayank Rathore, the chief coordinator of the program, and Mr. Ajit Kumar Sharan for making the event successful.
Faculty member Dr. Nayantara Damor encouraged students to include millet-based breakfasts in their weekly routine, explaining the numerous health benefits of millets. Prof. (Dr.) B. K. Anjana and Prof. (Dr.) D. D. Bediya administered a pledge under the “One Person – One Adopted Plant” campaign, inspiring every participant to adopt a sapling and take responsibility for its protection and regular care.
Students residing in the management hostel, Bank of India officials, research scholars, a large number of students, and institute alumni enthusiastically participated in the tree plantation drive. Their active involvement reflected a strong commitment to environmental stewardship. During the event, all participants also took a collective pledge to protect the environment, preserve plants, promote balanced population growth, and conserve nature.
On the occasion of World Population Day, the speakers emphasized that achieving a balance between the Earth’s limited natural resources and the continuously growing population has become one of the most pressing global challenges. They noted that issues such as water scarcity, air pollution, biodiversity loss, and climate change are becoming increasingly severe due to uncontrolled population growth. These challenges, they stressed, can only be effectively addressed through public awareness, green development, large-scale tree plantation, conservation of natural resources, and the adoption of sustainable lifestyles.
The program successfully conveyed a powerful message promoting environmental conservation, balanced population growth, the use of millets (Shree Anna), and a greener, more sustainable future.
