Dhanbad: Panic gripped the Jharia area of Dhanbad late Sunday night after a bomb was thrown at the residence of BJP MLA Ragini Singh. Fortunately, both explosive devices were not powerful, resulting in no casualties, but the incident created widespread fear in the neighborhood. Police are investigating the case.
The incident took place at Singh Mansion, located near the steel gate on Sarai Dhela–Govindpur Road. One bomb landed inside the mansion while the other exploded near the gate. Authorities later confirmed that the devices were crude firecrackers (sutli bombs), not lethal explosives.
Attack Carried Out by Two Youths on a Bike
According to reports, the attack occurred around 11:40 PM. CCTV footage from Singh Mansion shows two young men on a motorcycle throwing the bombs. The suspects reportedly came from the Kolakusuma side and fled toward Govindpur. City SP Ritvik Srivastava, along with Rural SP Kapil Chaudhary and teams from Sarai Dhela and Dhanbad police stations, rushed to the site.
Loud Explosions Trigger Panic
Singh Mansion is the residence of MLA Ragini Singh and her husband, former MLA Sanjeev Singh. Given the gravity of the incident, the mansion was immediately turned into a temporary police camp. The explosions, which were loud, caused fear among local residents and created chaos in the area.
Supporters Present During the Attack
At the time of the attack, supporters of MLA Ragini Singh were present inside the mansion. Sanjeev Singh had arrived shortly before the incident. Following the explosions, some supporters rushed outside and reportedly spotted individuals fleeing in a black Thar vehicle while recording the scene.
Police Tighten Security
Police have increased security at the site, while supporters of Sanjeev Singh gathered at the mansion during the night. The investigation is being conducted from multiple angles. The attack is notable, as such a daring act had never occurred at Singh Mansion before.
Bomb Attack Ahead of Mayoral Nomination
The incident comes just ahead of former MLA Sanjeev Singh’s mayoral nomination for the Dhanbad Municipal Corporation elections scheduled for February 2. The bombing has raised several questions, with speculation that the attack may be politically motivated due to Singh’s candidacy, causing unease among rival parties.
