Awareness Vehicle Turns into a Showpiece; Dengue and Malaria Prevention Message Fails to Reach the City

Public Awareness Campaign Stalls as Collector-Initiated Promotional Vehicle Remains Parked at Municipal Council Premises

At a time when the risk of mosquito-borne diseases such as dengue, malaria, and chikungunya increases significantly during the monsoon season, the awareness vehicle prepared under the directions of the District Collector is lying idle at the Municipal Council premises instead of educating the public. The vehicle was specially designed to travel across different wards and public places to spread awareness about preventing these seasonal diseases, but the campaign appears to have come to a standstill.

The vehicle prominently displays the slogan, “Let this be everyone’s pledge – Make our city dengue-free,” along with important messages on the prevention of dengue, malaria, and chikungunya. It was intended to educate residents about maintaining cleanliness, preventing water stagnation, protecting themselves from mosquito bites, and seeking timely medical attention if symptoms appear.

Public Awareness Most Needed During the Monsoon

Health experts emphasize that the monsoon season creates ideal breeding conditions for mosquitoes due to waterlogging and poor sanitation. This makes large-scale public awareness campaigns essential. If the awareness vehicle regularly visited residential areas, markets, schools, and other crowded locations, it could effectively educate thousands of citizens about preventive measures and help reduce the spread of mosquito-borne diseases.

Residents Raise Concerns

Local residents have questioned why the awareness vehicle, prepared at the Collector’s initiative, has remained parked at the Municipal Council premises for an extended period instead of being deployed across the city. They believe the campaign can only achieve its objective if the vehicle is actively used to spread awareness among the public.

Citizens say that while significant resources are spent on public health, awareness campaigns are equally important in preventing outbreaks. They hope the administration will soon put the vehicle into operation and intensify the awareness drive so that preventive messages reach every corner of the city, helping protect residents from dengue, malaria, and other mosquito-borne diseases.
