Grand Kanwar Yatra to Be Held on the First Monday of Shravan; Neelam Hemant Rajput Appointed Convenor

Vidisha, July 21 (Sadvarta): The Sanatan Shri Hindu Utsav Samiti will organize a grand Kanwar Yatra on Monday, August 3, 2026, the first Monday of the holy month of Shravan. Committee members and office-bearers are actively engaged in preparations to ensure the event is conducted in a grand and well-organized manner.

Committee President Nitin Maheshwari said that following traditional rituals and prayers, the Kanwar Yatra will commence at 9:00 a.m. from the Shri Hanuman Temple at Badwale Ghat on the banks of the Betwa River. The procession will pass through the city’s main routes before reaching Shivalaya Mahadev (Kanch Mandir) in Madhavganj, where devotees will perform the ceremonial Jalabhishek (offering of holy water) to Lord Shiva, marking the conclusion of the yatra.

During a meeting held at Parinay Garden on Tuesday, Neelam Hemant Rajput was unanimously appointed as the Convenor of the Kanwar Yatra following the recommendation of Committee President Nitin Maheshwari and the approval of senior office-bearers.

After her appointment, Neelam Hemant Rajput said that the Kanwar Yatra is a sacred festival symbolizing devotion, faith, and dedication to Lord Shiva. She added that the pilgrimage represents the unbreakable bond between devotees and Lord Shiva while strengthening religious and cultural unity in society.

Several key decisions regarding the event’s arrangements were taken during the meeting. In view of the monsoon season, the committee decided to install waterproof tents at Badwale Ghat for the convenience of women devotees. It was also decided to form two to three teams comprising five to ten members each to ensure the safe and orderly filling of holy water in the Kanwars.

Additionally, the committee resolved that its women members would organize meetings at various temples across the city before the yatra to encourage greater public participation and connect more devotees with the event.

Committee spokesperson Manoj Sharma stated that the Kanwar Yatra is regarded in Hinduism as a pilgrimage of great spiritual merit. Devotees undertake this sacred journey with deep faith to seek the blessings and grace of Lord Shiva.

The meeting was attended by the committee’s Founder President Narayan Singh Kushwaha, former President Ballu Maharaj, Sajeev Sharma, Deepak Saxena, and a large number of committee office-bearers and members.
