Arranged Marriage in Fatehpur Disrupted After Dog Causes Chaos, Families Call Off Wedding

Fatehpur, February 21, 2026: A seemingly routine arranged marriage in Fatehpur, Uttar Pradesh, turned into chaos after a pet dog sparked a major dispute between the bride’s and groom’s families. The incident escalated to physical altercations, forcing both families to cancel the wedding.

How the Dispute Began

The bride’s family had brought their pet dog from Prayagraj to the wedding venue. During the ceremony, the dog attempted to enter the hall, which reportedly upset the groom’s party. One of the groomsmen hit the dog, triggering a heated argument. The situation quickly spiraled, turning the celebration into a battleground.

Escalation at the Venue

Attempts to calm the situation failed, and the argument escalated into physical fights. Guests sought refuge in rooms as the scuffle intensified, leaving four people, including a woman, injured. Efforts to continue the wedding were abandoned, and the families mutually decided to call off the ceremony.

Allegations and Background

The groom’s brother, Amit, claimed that the couple had been in a romantic relationship and had secretly married at an Arya Samaj temple in January according to traditional customs. He alleged that the bride’s family never wanted the couple to marry and had deliberately brought the dog to create a disruption during the arranged ceremony scheduled on February 18.

The groom’s party accused the bride’s side of intentionally sabotaging the wedding, while the bride’s family insisted the dog’s presence was unintentional. Both sides later reached a mutual understanding at the Khaga police station, returning gifts and jewelry exchanged for the wedding.

Official Statement

Ramesh Patel, in-charge of Khaga police station, confirmed: “After discussions and attempts at reconciliation, both families agreed not to proceed with the wedding. No formal complaints were filed against either side. The matter has become a major talking point in the region.”
