Ministry of Corporate Affairs Cracks Down on Digital Fraud, Urges Stakeholders to Beware of Fake Calls and WhatsApp Messages

New Delhi: In a significant move to curb the rising menace of cybercrime and online fraud, the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA), Government of India, has issued a public advisory warning companies, directors, professionals, and stakeholders against fraudulent communications being circulated in the name of government authorities.

According to the Ministry, cyber fraudsters are impersonating the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA), the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), the Income Tax Department, and other Government Departments through fake phone calls, WhatsApp messages, phishing emails, ZIP file attachments, and counterfeit websites with the intention of deceiving stakeholders and obtaining confidential information.

The Ministry has advised stakeholders to remain extremely cautious and refrain from clicking on suspicious links, opening unsolicited ZIP files or email attachments, or sharing any confidential, financial, or personal information through unverified communication channels.

The advisory further clarifies that the Ministry of Corporate Affairs does not contact stakeholders through mobile calls or WhatsApp regarding non-compliance issues or enforcement actions. Any communication claiming to be from the Ministry should be verified only through the official MCA website before taking any action.

The Ministry has also urged stakeholders to report any suspicious communication through the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal. For matters related to MCA services, stakeholders are advised to seek assistance through the official MCA Helpdesk.

With cyber fraud cases increasing across the country, this advisory is being viewed as an important initiative to protect businesses and the public from digital scams. Experts believe that awareness, vigilance, and verification through official government platforms are the most effective safeguards against cyber fraud.

The advisory has been issued by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Government of India, in the public interest to strengthen cybersecurity awareness and protect stakeholders from online financial and identity-related frauds.
