Rahul Gandhi’s Detention Sparks Political Storm: Congress Protests Nationwide, Issue Echoes from Madhya Pradesh Assembly to Jantar Mantar

New Delhi/Bhopal: (— SDNA) The detention of Congress leader and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, during a protest in support of students has triggered a fresh political controversy across the country. After nearly three hours in custody, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, and other opposition leaders were released. However, the incident has provided the Congress and the opposition with a new opportunity to intensify their attack on the central government.

Following Rahul Gandhi’s detention, the Congress organized protests across the country. Party workers took to the streets in several states, accusing the Union government of suppressing democratic rights. The opposition argued that participating in a peaceful demonstration in support of students’ demands is a fundamental democratic right and that the police action was unacceptable.

Impact Reaches Madhya Pradesh Assembly

The issue of Rahul Gandhi’s detention also resonated strongly in the Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly. Congress MLAs staged protests both inside and outside the House, demanding a discussion on the education system and the concerns raised by students while criticizing the state government.

During the proceedings, BJP National General Secretary and Madhya Pradesh Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya met opposition leaders. Leader of the Opposition Umang Singhar confronted him, demanding a detailed discussion in the Assembly on the students’ issues and Rahul Gandhi’s detention. Singhar also urged the government to issue a public apology for the action taken against the students.

However, Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya firmly refused to apologize, stating, “When the government has done nothing wrong, what is there to apologize for?” He dismissed the opposition’s allegations as baseless and maintained that the government had acted strictly in accordance with the law.

Protest Echoes from Jantar Mantar to Parliament

The Congress and other opposition parties continued their protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar for several hours. Demonstrators described Rahul Gandhi’s detention as an attack on democracy and raised slogans against the central government. Opposition leaders declared that they would continue to raise the issues of students’ demands, education reforms, and Rahul Gandhi’s detention both inside and outside Parliament.

Congress General Secretary K.C. Venugopal alleged that the government was avoiding a discussion on students’ concerns and adopting an increasingly repressive approach. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said that if the opposition’s voice was silenced in Parliament, it would take its message directly to the people. Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav also called for the acceptance of the students’ demands and demanded an impartial inquiry into the police action.
