New Delhi, July 22 (SDNA): Foreign Ministers of the Quad countries have reaffirmed their commitment to a free and open Indo-Pacific region while expressing their continued support for the unity of ASEAN and greater cooperation with the regional bloc.
The Ministry of External Affairs on Wednesday stated that the Quad meeting was held in Manila, where India’s External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar, Australia’s Foreign Minister Penny Wong, Japan’s Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi, and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio participated.
In a joint press statement issued after the meeting, the Quad ministers said that they remain committed to further strengthening cooperation with ASEAN as comprehensive strategic partners. They described ASEAN as an important partner in promoting peace, stability, and cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region.
The Quad ministers expressed their resolve to enhance collaboration with ASEAN on regional security, economic development, and issues of shared interest.
During the meeting, the Quad countries also reiterated their support for a rules-based order in the Indo-Pacific, freedom of navigation, and respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all nations.
