New Delhi, July 22 (SDNA): The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has demanded an immediate discussion in the Rajya Sabha over the Delhi Police action against students who were protesting in the national capital. The party has submitted a notice under Rule 267 seeking suspension of the scheduled business of the House to discuss the issue.
According to a statement issued by the party, TMC’s Chief Whip in the Rajya Sabha Nadimul Haque submitted the notice. The party has demanded that the Upper House hold a detailed discussion on what it described as the “atrocities by Delhi Police against students who were peacefully protesting on July 20.”
The TMC stated that the issue of police action against students and their right to peaceful protest requires discussion in Parliament, so that the government can be questioned and held accountable.
The matter of student protests and the alleged police action has now become a major political issue in both Houses of Parliament, with Opposition parties continuing to raise questions over the government’s response.
