Kodarma, Jharkhand: Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren is set to address a grand public rally today at Lokai Maidan in Kodarma. The event marks the official entry of prominent local leader Shalini Gupta into the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), a move expected to significantly reshape local political dynamics. With top party leaders present, the rally is being organized on a historic scale, with strict security arrangements in place.
Shalini Gupta’s Entry Shakes Up Local Politics
Kodarma, often called the “Gateway of Jharkhand,” has long been a politically strategic seat. Shalini Gupta’s decision to join JMM prevents Subhash Yadav, a close aide of Lalu Prasad Yadav and former sand businessman, from easily fulfilling his legislative ambitions. CM Hemant Soren’s rally at Lokai Maidan aims to formally induct her into the party.
Gupta’s arrival is seen as a potential game-changer in local politics. Having finished third in the previous assembly elections, her entry is expected to strengthen JMM’s influence in the region. CM Soren will be accompanied by his wife and legislator Kalpana Soren during the event.
Rally Setup and Schedule
The Lokai Maidan has been prepared meticulously by JMM workers, with a large stage and a canopy accommodating around 8,000 attendees. Local leaders claim the crowd will set a historic precedent in Kodarma’s political history.
- 12:05 PM: CM’s helicopter will land at a temporary helipad at JJ College grounds.
- 12:20 PM: CM will proceed by road to the rally site at Lokai Maidan.
- 12:20–1:20 PM: Hemant Soren will address the public and party workers from the stage.
Shalini Gupta: A Rising Political Profile
Shalini Gupta began her political career in 2010 with the three-tier Panchayat elections, being elected as a committee member from Kharkhar Panchayat, followed by serving as the head of Domchanch Block.
In 2015, she won the district council elections from Domchanch (Part 2) and later became the chairperson of Kodarma District Council. In the 2019 assembly elections, after being denied a BJP ticket, she contested on an AJSU ticket and secured a strong third position, establishing her significant local presence.
2019 Elections: A Game-Changer for Kodarma
In the 2024 Kodarma elections, Shalini Gupta emerged as a decisive factor, securing 69,537 votes. Her performance directly affected the outcome, with RJD candidate Subhash Yadav losing by a narrow margin of 5,815 votes. Analysts believe that without Gupta’s strong vote share, Yadav’s victory would have been certain.
Her popularity reflects her ability to influence not just traditional NDA voters but also the core vote bank of RJD, underlining her growing political clout in Kodarma.
