Although recent rainfall has temporarily eased the dry cold, residents in the hilly regions continue to face difficulties. Heavy snowfall has cut off access to several villages, and locals are struggling with intermittent electricity and water supply.

Cold Mornings and Evenings Persist:
The combination of cold waves in the hills and fog in the plains is making mornings and evenings particularly chilly. While bright sunlight during the day provides some relief, early mornings and evenings remain biting cold. On Thursday, Dehradun experienced light fog during the early hours.

Districts Likely to Be Affected:
The Meteorological Centre has forecast light morning fog in parts of Dehradun, Pauri, Nainital, and Champawat, while Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar are under a yellow alert for denser fog.

Avalanche Risk in High-Altitude Areas:
The State Disaster Operations Centre has issued an avalanche warning for four high-altitude districts—Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, and Pithoragarh. The Defence Geo-Informatics Research Institute in Chandigarh has warned of potential avalanches from Friday 5:00 AM to Saturday 5:00 AM.

Authorities have been put on alert: Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, and Pithoragarh are categorized as high-risk zones, while Bageshwar falls under medium-risk. Continuous heavy snowfall increases the danger of fresh avalanches or reactivation of old snow slides. District officials have been instructed to maintain heightened vigilance and ensure disaster management resources are ready for immediate deployment.
