CM Joins Balram Agriculture Festival Through Video Conference, Emphasizes Modern Farming, Irrigation and Agricultural Innovation

Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav said that Barwani district is creating a new identity across the country through its hard work, innovation, and agricultural development. He said that the state government is making efforts to secure a Geographical Indication (GI) Tag for Barwani’s famous red chilli, which will provide it with national and international recognition.
The Chief Minister participated in the Balram Agriculture Festival organized in Barwani district through video conferencing from the Chief Minister’s chamber at the Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly on Tuesday. He appealed to farmers, especially young farmers, to adopt modern agricultural technology, start agri-based startups, and take maximum benefit of government schemes.
Dr. Yadav said that farmers of Barwani are setting new examples in agriculture by adopting scientific farming methods, modern grading, and advanced packaging techniques. Due to these efforts, the demand for Barwani’s red chilli is continuously increasing. He expressed confidence that after receiving the GI Tag, Barwani’s chilli will establish itself as a global brand in international markets.
Irrigation Projects Will Transform Agriculture
The Chief Minister informed that work is progressing rapidly on irrigation projects including Sendhwa, Niwali, Pati, Nagalwadi Lift Irrigation Scheme, and Shaheed Bhima Nayak Sagar (Lower Goi) project at an estimated cost of around ₹5,000 crore. After completion, these projects will provide irrigation facilities to more than 1.21 lakh hectares of agricultural land in 319 villages of Barwani district.
He said that there is no shortage of fertilizers and seeds in the state. To provide quality seeds to farmers, an Ideal Seed Production Centre is being established in Barwani over an area of 50 acres.
Cotton and Banana Production to Get New Markets
The Chief Minister said that Barwani has emerged as a major cotton-producing region. Farmers adopting modern techniques are getting better production and higher income. The upcoming PM MITRA Park in neighbouring Dhar district will create new opportunities for cotton-producing farmers.
He said that due to drip irrigation and tissue culture technology, the sweetness and quality of Barwani bananas have attracted markets in Gulf countries. The Mega Food Processing Cluster being developed at Ghatwa in Rajpur tehsil will provide banana farmers with facilities for processing, packaging, and exports.
Several Major Announcements for Farmers
Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said that farmers will now receive a single crop loan approval for the entire year and will get 12 months’ time for repayment. In case of land acquisition for development projects in rural areas, farmers will receive compensation up to four times the market value.
He informed that ₹1,475 crore has already been transferred to the accounts of more than 7 lakh soybean farmers in the state. Mustard and paddy have also been included under the Bhavantar Payment Scheme to ensure fair prices for farmers.
The Chief Minister said that farmers are being provided 10 hours of uninterrupted electricity daily, and the government aims to increase this facility to 24 hours in the future. He added that continuous efforts are being made to strengthen rural economy, promote dairy farming, and increase solar energy production in agricultural fields.
He also informed that Barwani will soon receive railway connectivity, which will provide a major boost to the district’s development and trade activities.
