In a cheque bounce case dating back to 2010, businessman Madhav Gopal Agrawal, who had lent actor Rajpal Yadav ₹5 crore, has for the first time shared the full story behind the deal. He revealed that in the early days, he had pleaded with the actor like a child, seeking repayment.
Interim Bail Granted to Rajpal Yadav
Comedian-actor Rajpal Yadav, currently in Tihar Jail, has been granted interim bail by the Delhi High Court until 18 March 2026. Meanwhile, Madhav Gopal Agrawal, owner of Murli Projects Pvt. Ltd., spoke exclusively to the media, clarifying why and under whose guidance the money was given, and the details of their agreement.
Loan Provided on MP Mithilesh Kumar Katheria’s Suggestion
Madhav revealed that in 2010, he lent Rajpal Yadav ₹5 crore on the recommendation of MP Mithilesh Kumar Katheria, to support the film Ata Pata Lapata. Initially, he had refused to provide the funds. Madhav explained:
“After I initially declined, Rajpal Yadav’s wife, Radha Yadav, began messaging me. Under emotional pressure, I agreed to lend the money.”
Agreement Details
The agreement clearly stated that regardless of the film’s success, Censor Board clearance, or any unforeseen events, Rajpal Yadav was obligated to return the agreed sum on time. The actor even provided a personal guarantee, which Madhav emphasized, contradicting Rajpal’s claims that it was merely an investment:
“When one invests in a film, personal guarantees are not given, nor are cheques provided,” Madhav said.
Supplementary Agreements and Court Intervention
Madhav disclosed that three supplementary agreements were created over time. Whenever cheques were deposited, Rajpal Yadav cited lack of funds. Despite court intervention, he struggled to pay. Eventually, a settlement of ₹10.40 crore was reached under Delhi High Court supervision, but all cheques issued by Rajpal Yadav bounced.
Personal Pleas and Emotional Pressure
Madhav described his emotional struggle:
“Before the matter reached court, I visited Rajpal Yadav’s home and pleaded like a child. We are neither that wealthy nor powerful. We helped him thinking he was an actor and the money would be repaid. I even promised to draft supplementary agreements for the dates he suggested.”
He clarified that Rajpal Yadav’s jail time did not give us any satisfaction:
“Our concern has always been recovering the money. The law is taking its course. If we were wrong, that’s another matter, but we followed proper procedures.”
Demand Draft, Interim Bail, and Support
The court granted interim bail after Rajpal Yadav submitted a ₹1.5 crore demand draft, to attend his niece’s wedding in Shahjahanpur. The next hearing is scheduled for 18 March 2026.
During this period, actor Sonu Sood launched a social media campaign to support Rajpal Yadav, with help also coming from several stars and politicians. Contributions included ₹11 lakh from Tej Pratap Yadav, ₹1.11 crore from music producer Indrajeet Singh, and ₹51,000 from ASP Anuj Chaudhary of Firozabad.
Legal Complications and Court Fine
Madhav also shared details about the Delhi High Court mediation, where out-of-court settlement attempts were made. A fine of ₹25,000 was imposed on him for conducting settlement without court permission, which he duly paid.
Escalating Interest on Loan
Madhav revealed the long-term financial impact:
“With 12% interest, the initial ₹5 crore loan has now grown to ₹25 crore. We have always taken a minimal compromise approach. Rajpal Yadav’s jail term does not bring us any pleasure, but the law is taking its course.”
