New Delhi: A confrontation between police personnel and a local woman in Geeta Colony, Shahdara, escalated into a physical altercation on Sunday night, leading to injuries and a case being registered against the woman.
According to police sources, around 8:15 PM, Head Constable Ankur and Constable Javed, posted at Geeta Colony police station, were patrolling on foot along Pushta Road near Safeda Jhuggi. During their patrol, they noticed a group of suspicious young men near Rupa, the wife of a declared local criminal, Salman alias Kalu. Police had previously received information regarding Rupa’s involvement in drug-related activities.
When the officers began questioning the men, Rupa allegedly became aggressive, verbally abusing the police despite repeated attempts to calm her. As Head Constable Ankur started recording the incident on his mobile phone, Rupa’s aggression escalated further. She reportedly engaged in a physical scuffle with the officers, tearing Ankur’s uniform and causing injuries.
Following the incident, Rupa is accused of making a false PCR call to mislead authorities. Additional police personnel arrived at the scene, and Ankur was taken to Dr. Hegdewar Hospital, where medical examination confirmed scratches and injuries from blunt force. The torn uniform was also seized by police as evidence.
Subsequently, a case has been registered against Rupa under sections 121(1) (voluntarily causing injury to a public servant to prevent them from performing duty), 132 (assault on a public servant), and 221 (obstructing a public servant in the performance of duty) of the BNS.
