Agriculture Department Registers FIRs Against Two Fertilizer Dealers for Black Marketing and Illegal Trade
Strict Action Taken Against Overpricing and Unauthorized Sale of Fertilizers
Jabalpur, July 18, 2026:
The Agriculture Department has initiated strict action against illegal fertilizer trading and black marketing in Jabalpur district. Acting on complaints received from farmers, officials conducted surprise inspections and registered First Information Reports (FIRs) against the operators of two agricultural input centres after serious irregularities were detected.
According to Deputy Director of Agriculture Umesh Katare, an inspection of M/s New Goswami Krishi Kendra at Majhgawan, Sihora, revealed that the proprietor, Rakesh Goswami, had procured fertilizers from unauthorized sources and was operating in violation of the conditions of his fertilizer licence.
In another case, officials inspected Janaki Krishi Kendra at Kaladehi in Bargi following complaints from farmers. The inspection found that the centre was selling fertilizers at prices higher than the Government-approved rates and had failed to display the mandatory price list.
Farmers informed the inspection team that they had been charged ₹1,600 per bag of DAP fertilizer, substantially above the prescribed retail price. Some farmers also produced online payment records as evidence.
Considering the seriousness of the violations, FIRs have been registered against both establishments under the provisions of the Fertilizer (Control) Order, 1985, and the Essential Commodities Act, 1955, at the Bargi and Majhgawan police stations, respectively. Investigations are currently underway.
The Deputy Director of Agriculture stated that the department will continue taking stringent action to ensure the availability of fertilizers to farmers at government-approved prices. He also urged farmers to always obtain a purchase invoice while buying fertilizers or any agricultural inputs.
