Haryana Police Order Removal of 67 Songs from Digital Platforms for Glorifying Crime

Chandigarh:
In a major crackdown on content promoting criminal culture, the Haryana Police have directed the removal of 67 songs from leading digital platforms, including YouTube, Spotify, Amazon Music, Gaana, and JioSaavn. The action was taken after authorities found that these songs were glorifying organised crime, gangsters, weapons, and a flashy lifestyle linked to criminal activities.

According to the police, the operation was carried out jointly by the Special Task Force (STF) and the Cyber Unit after a detailed investigation. The probe revealed that several songs openly celebrated gangsters and violence, portraying crime as a symbol of power, wealth, and social status. Officials believe such content can mislead and influence young people, drawing them towards criminal behaviour.

The police spokesperson said that, apart from removing the content, close monitoring of social media will continue. Individuals found repeatedly liking, sharing, or promoting such content may also face action if required under the law.

STF Inspector General Satish Balan stated that the police have also engaged with artists and content creators, urging them to act responsibly and avoid glorifying violence and gangster culture. He highlighted that past intelligence-based operations had exposed networks linked to terrorist activities, leading to the recovery of grenades and illegal weapons. In this context, unchecked online content poses a serious risk to internal security.

Haryana Director General of Police (DGP) Ajay Singhal appealed to musicians and digital creators to be mindful of their social responsibility. He said the objective of the campaign is not only to curb crime but also to protect the youth from misleading narratives. “Such songs project criminals as role models while hiding the harsh realities of crime and the suffering it brings to families and society,” the DGP said.

The Haryana Police emphasised that a dual strategy—strict action against organised crime and tighter control over harmful online content—is strengthening the state’s internal security framework and sending a clear message against the glorification of violence.
