‘Dew Can Change Everything’: MS Dhoni Warns Team India Ahead of T20 World Cup 2026

Former Indian captain MS Dhoni has described the Indian cricket team as a formidable unit ahead of the T20 World Cup 2026, but he also issued a caution, highlighting that dew could be a game-changer in the tournament.

India’s Readiness and Dhoni’s Concerns
The T20 World Cup 2026, jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka, sees Team India in top form. The side has not lost a single T20 series in the past two years and has consistently defeated strong opposition, raising high expectations. However, Dhoni emphasized that while the team possesses all the ingredients for success—experience, skill, and the ability to handle pressure—dew remains a factor that could significantly influence match outcomes, especially in night games.

“The thing that concerns me the most is dew. I hate dew because it changes a lot. Even when I played, dew used to intimidate me. Toss becomes crucial, and many situations depend on it,” Dhoni said during an event. He pointed out that dew had affected India in the 2016 T20 World Cup, contributing to their semi-final defeat against the West Indies despite being in great form.

Views on Rohit and Kohli’s World Cup Prospects
When asked about Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli participating in the 2027 ODI World Cup, Dhoni said, “Why not? Age is never a criterion for me. Performance and fitness are what matter. If they want to play and perform well, there’s no reason they shouldn’t.” Dhoni has consistently supported both players and believes their experience and determination could keep them in contention for the next World Cup.
