UP Leads Two- and Three-Wheeler Sales, Maharashtra Tops Car Sales in India

New Delhi, 18 November 2025: According to the latest data from the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), Uttar Pradesh remains the top state for two- and three-wheeler sales, while Maharashtra continues to lead in car and commercial vehicle purchases.

Passenger Vehicle Sales
In the second quarter of the financial year 2025-26, India recorded a total of 10.39 lakh passenger vehicles sold. Maharashtra emerged as the leader with 1.32 lakh cars sold, accounting for 12.7% of total sales. Uttar Pradesh ranked second with a 9.7% share, followed by Gujarat (8.5%), Karnataka (7.4%), Kerala (6.7%), and Tamil Nadu (6.6%).

Two-Wheeler Sales Dominate in UP
Two-wheeler sales totaled 55.62 lakh units nationwide during the quarter. Uttar Pradesh led the segment with 6.93 lakh units sold, representing 12.5% of the market, followed by Maharashtra (11.3%), Gujarat (8%), Tamil Nadu (7.2%), and Rajasthan (6.5%).

Three-Wheeler Market
Only 2.29 lakh three-wheelers were sold across India during the period. Uttar Pradesh again recorded the highest sales with 0.28 lakh units, holding a 12.3% market share, followed by Telangana (11.6%), Gujarat (9.8%), Maharashtra (9.2%), and Karnataka (7.9%).

Commercial Vehicles
Sales of commercial vehicles reached 2.40 lakh units, with Maharashtra at the top (0.37 lakh units, 15.5% share). Gujarat followed with 9.4%, Uttar Pradesh at 7.9%, Tamil Nadu 7.7%, and Karnataka 7%.

Summary
While Maharashtra dominates the passenger and commercial vehicle market, Uttar Pradesh remains the largest market for two- and three-wheelers, reflecting its population size and growing demand for affordable mobility solutions.
