Jaipur/Jodhpur: In a significant late-night administrative overhaul, the Bhajanlal Sharma-led Rajasthan government transferred 21 IPS officers, triggering a major reshuffle in the state police force. The changes are being viewed as a strategic move to strengthen law enforcement and prepare for upcoming administrative challenges, particularly in key urban centers like Jaipur and Jodhpur.
The transfer list, issued by the Department of Personnel, has brought sweeping changes at the Commissioner, IG, and ADG levels. Several officers have been assigned new responsibilities along with promotions, signaling a recalibration of leadership within the police hierarchy.
Major Changes in Jodhpur
The most talked-about move is the transfer of Jodhpur Police Commissioner Om Prakash, who has now been appointed as Commissioner (Special Operations), Jaipur. Notably, when the transfer order was issued, Om Prakash was reportedly on a late-night patrol in Jodhpur’s inner city, engaging with locals and reviewing policing initiatives. During his tenure, he introduced innovations such as an AI-based portal and tourist-friendly policing measures.
He will be succeeded by Sharat Kaviraj, who takes over as the new Police Commissioner of Jodhpur. Kaviraj was serving as IG in the Special Operations Group (SOG) and has previously been SP of Jodhpur Rural, giving him familiarity with the region’s law enforcement landscape.
Changes at Range and IG Level
Significant reshuffling has also taken place at the Range IG level:
- Satyendra Singh, previously IG (CID-CB), has been appointed IG, Jodhpur Range.
- Rajesh Meena, former IG Jodhpur Range, has been moved to Jaipur as IG, Home Guards.
- Rahul Prakash has been reassigned from Special Commissioner, Jaipur, to IG, Jaipur Range.
Key ADG-Level Appointments
At the Additional Director General (ADG) level, the following changes were made:
- Hawa Singh Ghumaria: Transferred from ADG Crime Branch to ADG Headquarters.
- Vipin Kumar Pandey: Moved from ADG Recruitment Board to ADG Crime Branch.
- Prafull Kumar: Promoted and appointed as ADG Intelligence.
Other notable appointments include:
- Ajay Pal Lamba – IG, SOG Jaipur
- Preeti Chandra – IG, Law & Order (Administration), Jaipur
- Rajesh Singh – IG, ATS Jaipur
- Om Prakash II – IG, Bikaner Range
Additionally, IG Vikas Kumar has been relieved of the ATS charge and will now focus exclusively on the Anti-Narcotics Task Force.
Focus on Efficiency and Urban Policing
Administrative sources indicate that the reshuffle aims to enhance operational efficiency and tighten law and order management across Rajasthan. With Jaipur and Jodhpur being major urban hubs, the new team is expected to strengthen people-friendly policing while addressing emerging security challenges.
The sweeping midnight transfers underscore the government’s intent to recalibrate leadership within the police force, aligning officer expertise with evolving administrative priorities.
