Patna University Student Union Polls: Final List for President, Vice-President Released; Voting on February 28

Patna: The election bugle has sounded at Patna University, often dubbed the “mini Assembly” of Bihar politics, as the final list of candidates for the 2025–26 Student Union elections has been officially released. Following scrutiny of nomination papers and withdrawal of candidatures, the Chief Election Officer announced the names contesting for key posts, including President, Vice-President, General Secretary, and Joint Secretary.

The university administration has made it clear that polling will be conducted as scheduled and that any form of violence or indiscipline will invite strict action, including cancellation of candidature.

Tight Contest for Top Posts

According to the official list, 11 candidates are in the fray for the post of President. Prominent names include Abhishek Kumar, Anchal Kumar, Anushka Kumari, Divya Kumari, Geeta Kumari, Prince Kumar, Rinkle Yadav, Saba Afreen, Santu Kumar, Shantanu Shekhar, and Shiv Kumar.

For other key posts:

  • Vice-President: 8 candidates
  • General Secretary: 9 candidates
  • Joint Secretary: 6 candidates
  • Treasurer: 7 candidates

A total of 41 candidates are contesting for central panel positions, while 34 candidates are in the race for Council Member posts across various faculties and colleges.

All candidates have been administered an oath pledging adherence to election rules, confidentiality norms, and peaceful conduct throughout the process.

Election Schedule

The university has released a detailed timetable:

  • Campaigning ends: February 26, 2026, at 4:30 PM
  • Voting: February 28, 2026, from 8:30 AM to 2:30 PM
  • Counting of votes: February 28 (results expected by late night)
  • Counting venue: Patna Art College

The administration has directed candidates to strictly follow the Model Code of Conduct. Any violation could result in disqualification.

Strict Code of Conduct

In a bid to ensure transparency and peace, each candidate has submitted an affidavit condemning campus violence and affirming that their supporters will not engage in disorderly conduct. Candidates have also declared in writing that they have not incurred any campaign expenditure so far. The university has warned that breaching election norms may lead to immediate cancellation of nomination.

Faculty-Level Contests

Apart from central panel posts, elections will also be held for Council Members across faculties:

  • Faculty of Humanities – 4 candidates
  • Social Sciences – 6 candidates
  • Science College – 4 candidates
  • Patna Women’s College – 7 candidates

Major constituent colleges such as Vanijya Mahavidyalaya and B.N. College have also witnessed active participation.

With student leaders mobilizing supporters across campuses, political temperatures are rising. The upcoming election is being closely watched, as the Patna University Students’ Union has historically served as a launchpad for prominent political careers in Bihar.

All eyes are now on February 28, when thousands of students will cast their votes to decide the new leadership of the university.
