Noida, Uttar Pradesh: A 13-year-old girl studying in Class 7 tragically ended her life in Sector 63, Noida, allegedly due to persistent blackmail. The incident occurred on Saturday night when the girl was found hanging from a ceiling fan at her home. She was rushed to a hospital, but doctors declared her dead on arrival.
According to her family, the girl was being harassed by local youths who allegedly recorded photos and videos of her and used them for blackmail. Her brother revealed that her initial contact was with a youth named Ankur Thakur, who reportedly lured girls into exploitative situations. The girl had severed ties with him. Later, in January, a youth identified as Arbaaz contacted her, allegedly subjected her to inappropriate acts, recorded videos and photos, and began blackmailing her. Another individual, Sameer, is also said to have attempted to coerce her into inappropriate acts.
Before her death, the girl documented her ordeal in a five-page diary, naming Ankur Thakur, Arbaaz, and Sameer. She wrote explicitly, “I am hanging myself because the videos and photos are on Arbaaz’s phone.” She also expressed that she did not want to die, but felt compelled due to the relentless blackmail.
Following the diary’s revelations, the Noida Police registered a case under the POCSO Act and other relevant sections. Investigations have led to the arrest of two accused, while a third is reportedly in a jail in Rajasthan. The family and local Hindu organizations allege that this is part of a larger racket that traps young girls and coerces them into illegal activities. Yati Mahadev Nand Giri of the Juna Akhara also termed it an organized gang and demanded a stringent investigation.
The incident has sparked protests in the locality, with residents demanding strict action against the accused. Police have formed four teams to track down the remaining suspects. The case has raised serious concerns regarding minor safety, cyber blackmail, and misuse of social media platforms.
