Family Trapped in Faulty Lift for 30 Minutes in Greater Noida West, Residents Stage Protest

Greater Noida: Panic gripped residents of Greater Noida West on Sunday after four members of a family were trapped inside a malfunctioning lift for nearly 30 minutes at the Amrapali Golf Homes and Kingswood Society. The incident triggered outrage among residents, who staged protests against the Apartment Owners’ Association (AOA) and the society management.

According to residents, the lift stopped abruptly while descending from the ground floor to the basement parking in Tower L-9. Inside were an elderly woman, a nine-year-old child, a woman, and another family member. The lift doors failed to open, and repeated attempts to press the emergency alarm and buttons reportedly yielded no immediate response.

Family members alleged that the lift’s ventilation system was not functioning and the fan inside was non-operational, causing suffocation-like conditions. The elderly woman and the child reportedly began to feel unwell due to the lack of airflow.

The situation came to light when a passerby heard cries for help and alerted other residents. Society staff eventually arrived at the spot; however, residents claimed that security personnel lacked the technical knowledge to open the lift promptly. After considerable effort, the trapped occupants were rescued safely nearly half an hour later.

Angered by the incident, residents gathered outside the tower and raised slogans against the AOA and society management, demanding regular inspection and proper maintenance of all lifts to prevent such life-threatening situations in the future. A complaint has also been lodged with the Bisrakh Police.

Similar Concerns in Nearby Society

In a related development, residents of Amrapali Dream Valley-2 have also raised concerns over non-functional lifts. AOA President Hari Shyam Thakur stated that despite possession being granted in multiple towers, lifts remain non-operational in several buildings. In Tower A-7 alone, over 70 families are reportedly living without lift facilities. Complaints have been submitted to NBCC multiple times, but residents claim that no permanent solution has been provided so far.

Management Promises Investigation

AOA President Raghavendra Yadav acknowledged the incident and assured that the lift company has been instructed to conduct a technical inspection. He further stated that contact details of lift maintenance staff will be made available to all security personnel to ensure swift response in emergency situations.

Residents, however, maintain that only strict accountability and regular maintenance can restore their confidence in the safety of high-rise living.
