Amroha, Uttar Pradesh: Tensions rose in Gokuldham Colony, Amroha, after several Hindu families protested against repeated harassment by local youths. Residents expressed frustration over police inaction by posting “evacuation” notices outside their homes and staging demonstrations demanding strict action against the accused.
The incident came to light when a local woman accused a youth named Rihan of harassment. Despite her complaint, police initially took no action, prompting residents—especially women—to hold a protest with posters outside their homes demanding justice.
Lawmakers Intervene
Upon learning about the protest, MLA Nand Kishore Gurjar, accompanied by hundreds of residents, visited the Hasanpur Kotwali police station late Wednesday night. The MLA contacted the District Magistrate (DM) and Superintendent of Police (SP) to report the incident, urging immediate action.
Police Action
Authorities later confirmed that Rihan, the main accused, along with his associates, had allegedly stopped a local man and his wife on the road and engaged in obscene and inappropriate behavior. Following the MLA’s intervention and public outcry, the police registered an FIR and arrested Rihan.
Police officials emphasized that the complaint was promptly acted upon once the allegations were verified, ensuring the safety of the residents of Gokuldham Colony.
