AAP to Contest BMC Elections Solo, Promises Free Electricity and Water

Mumbai – The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has announced that it will contest all 227 seats in the upcoming Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections on its own. Party MP Sanjay Singh released the first list of 21 candidates on Friday, while AAP leader and former Delhi Chief Minister Atishi unveiled the party’s election manifesto for Mumbai.

Manifesto Highlights: Free Utilities and Women’s Services
In its manifesto, AAP has promised 200 units of free electricity, 24-hour free water supply, and free bus services for women if it comes to power in BMC. The party also plans to introduce neighborhood clinics in every locality, following a model similar to Delhi’s successful civic healthcare system.

Criticism of Mumbai’s Civic Administration
Sanjay Singh criticized Mumbai’s civic governance, stating, “Despite being one of India’s largest cities, Mumbai’s civic services are in poor condition. With a municipal budget of ₹74,447 crore, residents still face low-quality services. Instead of providing relief to Mumbai’s taxpayers, the municipal corporation has become a hub of corruption and inefficiency. Municipal schools are closing, and education standards are declining.”

Healthcare and Public Services in Focus
He further highlighted the lack of primary health centers, overburdened hospitals, and systematic neglect of BEST services. “Under the leadership of Arvind Kejriwal and Bhagwant Mann, AAP governments in Delhi and Punjab have shown how administration can be improved—delivering world-class education, healthcare, water, and electricity without corruption or debt,” Singh added.

With the elections approaching, AAP’s manifesto aims to position the party as a solution to Mumbai’s civic and administrative challenges.
