“Jana Nayagan” Release Pushed, Distributor Confirms No Release Before April 30; Vijay Fans Disappointed

Fans of Thalapathy Vijay have been eagerly awaiting the release of his film “Jana Nayagan”, but recent updates from the Canadian distributor, York Cinemas, have added to the uncertainty. The distributor confirmed that the film will not release before 30 April 2026, leaving fans disappointed.

Delay Linked to Censor Certification and Elections

“Jana Nayagan,” Vijay’s latest film, has been delayed because it has not yet received a release certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). Makers had initially approached the Madras High Court against the board but later withdrew the case. Complicating matters, Tamil Nadu is preparing for state assembly elections in March-April, with Vijay entering the political arena through his party TVK. Observers had previously warned that the film could face delays due to the election code of conduct, and the current situation confirms that concern.

Distributor Statement on Ticket Refunds

York Cinemas issued an official statement on their social media handles:

“Dear customers, please note that the film ‘Jana Nayagan’ will not release before 30 April. If you have any pending tickets and have not received a refund, please contact your nearest cinema. Once the release date is confirmed, we will reopen bookings. Thank you for your patience, understanding, and continued support.”

Advance bookings had already begun for domestic and international markets, as the film was initially scheduled for 9 January 2026.

Fans’ Reactions

The distributor’s statement did not provide a new release date, leading to widespread disappointment among fans. Many took to social media to ask whether the film would now release in May or June 2026, reflecting their frustration and eagerness for updates.
