Ahead of Panchayat Elections, CM Bhajanlal Sharma Reaches Out to Sarpanches in Jaipur

Jaipur:
With the Rajasthan Panchayat elections approaching, Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma has stepped up political outreach at the grassroots level. In a significant pre-election move, the Chief Minister interacted with sarpanches from across the state at a programme organised by the Sarpanch Sangh at Durgapura Auditorium in Jaipur on Monday.

The event, attended by sarpanches and local public representatives from various districts, turned into a show of unity and support for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of the upcoming rural polls. Party leaders and sarpanch representatives expressed confidence in the BJP’s prospects and outlined plans for village-level mobilisation.

CM Highlights His Own Experience as Sarpanch

Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma recalled his own tenure as a sarpanch, saying it helped him understand grassroots challenges and public expectations more closely.

“I am aware of the problems faced at the village level and the sensitivity required to address them. The government is committed to prioritising the needs of sarpanches,” Sharma said. He urged sarpanches to prepare a clear roadmap for development in their respective panchayats, assuring full cooperation from the state government.

Bhajanlal Sharma hails from Atari village in the Nadbai Assembly constituency and served as a sarpanch in the year 2000.

Assurance on MGNREGA Payments and Village Development Funds

The Chief Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to clearing pending payments under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA). He said the administration was continuously working to resolve issues related to rural development and financial allocations.

Banshidhar Garhwal, State President of the Rajasthan Sarpanch Sangh, said that a meeting with the Chief Minister had taken place around 15 days ago, during which sarpanches’ concerns were discussed and assurances given. “The Chief Minister has once again promised that pending MGNREGA payments will be released soon,” he said.

Unprecedented Outreach to Sarpanches

Sarpanch Sangh State Vice-President Arjun Singh described the interaction as unprecedented, noting that it was the first time a Chief Minister had held as many as seven meetings with sarpanches within a single year.

He credited the Chief Minister for extending the tenure of sarpanches and said that ₹800 crore had been secured from the Centre for village development, with the remaining amount expected to be transferred to accounts soon.

Village-Level Campaign for BJP

BJP State General Secretary Shakti Singh Rawat announced that members of the Sarpanch Sangh would actively campaign in villages and hamlets to build support for the BJP and ensure the party’s victory in maximum posts during the Panchayat elections.

The felicitation-cum-thanksgiving programme in honour of Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma was organised by the Sarpanch Sangh on February 2, 2026, at Durgapura Auditorium in Jaipur.
