Healthy and Budget-Friendly Sweet Made with Roasted Gram and Semolina Goes Viral

When a sweet craving strikes, many people hesitate due to concerns about adulterated sweets from the market. However, a delicious and nutritious dessert can be prepared at home in minutes using simple kitchen staples. A recipe made without khoya or sugar syrup is gaining popularity online for being economical, protein-rich, and easy to prepare.

A viral YouTube recipe shows how just one cup of roasted gram (bhuna chana) and half a cup of semolina (suji) can be turned into a rich, market-style sweet that surprises guests with its taste and texture. The addition of rock sugar crystals (mishri) and milk powder gives the dessert a premium flavor while keeping it healthier than conventional sweets.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup roasted gram
  • ½ cup semolina
  • 2 tablespoons ghee
  • ½ cup powdered mishri (rock sugar)
  • ½ cup milk powder
  • Cardamom powder or cardamom seeds
  • About ½ cup milk
  • Desiccated coconut for coating

Preparing the Base

Start by rubbing the roasted gram gently to remove the outer skin and sieve it clean. Heat a pan and add ghee. Once warm, roast the semolina on low flame until it releases a pleasant aroma and turns light golden. Allow it to cool completely.

Transfer the roasted semolina, cleaned gram, and cardamom into a mixer and grind into a very fine powder. Sieve the mixture again to ensure a smooth texture.

Adding Sweetness and Binding

Mix powdered mishri and milk powder into the ground mixture. Mishri is considered a healthier alternative to refined sugar and enhances the taste. Stir the dry ingredients thoroughly.

Gradually add room-temperature milk, little by little, and knead into a soft dough. Around half a cup of milk is usually sufficient to bind the mixture.

Shaping the Sweets

Grease your palms lightly with ghee and shape the dough into small pedas. For an attractive finish, roll them in desiccated coconut.

The result is a soft, flavorful sweet that looks store-bought but is homemade, affordable, and nutritious. Ideal for quick desserts, festive treats, or serving guests, this recipe combines taste, health, and convenience in one simple preparation.
