Ottawa, February 3: Canadian authorities have arrested three Indian nationals in connection with a shooting incident outside a residence in Surrey, British Columbia, officials reported. The arrests were made during an anti-extortion patrol following an early morning report of gunfire and a small fire outside a home in the Crescent Beach neighbourhood.
The suspects—Harjot Singh (21), Taranveer Singh (19), and Dayajeet Singh Billing (21)—have each been charged with discharging a firearm. According to the Surrey Police Service (SPS), all three remain in custody and are scheduled to appear in court on Thursday.
Police stated that the arrests were made after patrol officers responded promptly to the call, preventing potential escalation and ensuring the safety of the residents in the area. No injuries have been reported so far.
The investigation is ongoing, with authorities looking into the motive behind the shooting, which may be linked to alleged extortion activities in the region. Residents have been urged to report any suspicious activities and to remain vigilant while police continue their inquiries.
This incident underscores the challenges faced by law enforcement in tackling organized criminal activity, even in residential neighbourhoods, and highlights the importance of community cooperation in preventing crime.
