Barmer, Feb 9, 2026: The Kushal Vatika area of Barmer, Rajasthan, is set to become an even more prominent Jain pilgrimage site as construction progresses on a grand Lord Mahavir temple. Central to this ambitious project is a 55-foot-tall seated statue of Lord Mahavir, crafted from Panchdhatu (five-metal alloy), which is expected to be the largest seated Panchdhatu statue in the world. The statue will be installed on a Samavasaran-style platform, forming part of a temple complex that rises 155 feet from the ground.
Project Scale and Cost:
The temple complex, with a three-storey structure approximately 100 feet tall, is being constructed at an estimated cost of INR 25 crore. The ground floor, as well as the upper two floors, will serve religious and educational purposes. A museum based on Jain scriptures will occupy the second and third floors, offering visitors insights into Jain philosophy, history, and religious teachings.
Architectural Highlights:
The temple’s design features three dome-shaped shikharas, adding a distinctive character to its architecture. The first floor incorporates Sammed Shikhar and Girnar Shikhar motifs, alongside sculptures representing major Jain pilgrimage sites and religious symbols. The entire project has been designed by renowned Nasik-based architect Anil B. Chaudhari, blending traditional aesthetics with educational functionality.
Progress on the Mahavir Statue:
Construction of the Lord Mahavir statue has already begun. The preliminary structure has been established, and work is underway to create the seating platform. Once completed, the statue is expected to become a major attraction for devotees and tourists alike.
A Growing Pilgrimage Hub:
Kushal Vatika, already famous for the Navagraha Temple and Dada Gurudev Temple, draws devotees from Gujarat, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh throughout the year. With the addition of the new temple, museum, library, Jainalay, and Dadabari, Barmer is poised to become a key center of faith and pilgrimage for the Jain community across India.
