Patna, Feb 9, 2026: The issue of women police barracks not being constructed in Bihar has come under sharp scrutiny in the state assembly. BJP MLA Jivesh Mishra raised the matter during a session, highlighting the inaction despite the state government’s initiatives to improve facilities for women police personnel.
Responding in the assembly, Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister Samrat Chaudhary assured that a thorough investigation will be conducted into the officials whose negligence delayed the construction of women’s police barracks. He further stated that those found responsible will face disciplinary action. Additionally, the minister confirmed that the dilapidated conditions of the Jale and Singhwara police stations will also be reviewed.
Assembly Spotlight on Home Minister:
During Monday’s session, Home Minister Chaudhary came under pressure over the allegations. Former minister Jivesh Mishra pointed out that while Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had taken special initiatives to include more women in policing and ordered the construction of barracks in 10 out of 246 police stations, the work remained incomplete from 2022 to 2026. Mishra emphasized that the lack of proper housing facilities undermines the efficiency and morale of women officers.
Questions About Dilapidated Police Stations:
Mishra also questioned the condition of the Jale and Singhwara police stations, calling the government’s claim that they were not dilapidated “misleading.” He noted that INR 6 lakh had been allocated for repairs, raising doubts about the accuracy of official statements. Home Minister Chaudhary responded that an investigation will be conducted, with Mishra involved in the review, and appropriate decisions will be taken.
Visitor Rooms Remain Unbuilt:
The issue of visitor rooms also came under scrutiny. Despite orders issued five years ago, the rooms have not been constructed. Mishra pointed out that provisions for accommodation for station heads, COs, and BDOs are lacking, raising concerns about the working conditions and effectiveness of police administration in these areas.
The state government’s commitment to investigate these issues reflects a growing emphasis on accountability and improving infrastructure for police personnel, especially women officers.
