Haridwar: In a historic first, Sonia Bua, a 57-year-old transgender activist, has been appointed as the Cleanliness Brand Ambassador by the Haridwar Municipal Corporation. The appointment marks a proud moment for the Kinnar community, as they take center stage in promoting social awareness and civic responsibility.

Sonia Bua expressed her gratitude and commitment, stating, “I am honored to represent the Kinnar community in this role. We have always been part of social festivals and community causes, and now we will spread the message of cleanliness wherever we go.”

Spreading Awareness Across the City

Municipal Commissioner Nandan Kumar said that Sonia Bua and her colleagues will visit households across the city to promote cleanliness. “Cleanliness is not just a government campaign; it is a deep social responsibility. True change can only be achieved by giving every section of society a respected place,” he remarked.

Overcoming Early Struggles

Sonia Bua hails from Bahadrabad in Haridwar and moved to the city at the age of 20. She revealed that her early life was full of struggles, facing neglect and discrimination not only from society but also from her own family. “Today, being recognized by the Municipal Corporation as the brand ambassador for cleanliness is a matter of immense pride and gratitude. I will perform my duties with full dedication,” she said.

Sonia Bua added that she plans to spread the message of cleanliness at all social and religious events she attends with her peers, using her platform to inspire the wider community.
