
Lucknow, Feb 9, 2026: The Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly witnessed chaos on the opening day of the 2026-27 budget session as SP and Congress legislators disrupted Governor Anandi Patel’s address with loud slogans and protests.
Reacting to the uproar, the Governor expressed her anger, stating, “This was zero in your time, zero. For five to seven years, all you have done is create chaos. And it will continue to remain zero in the future.” Her stern words drew visible reactions in the house. Assembly Speaker Satish Mahana laughed loudly, while Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and other ruling party ministers and MLAs tapped the desk in approval.
The disruption began as the Governor was highlighting the achievements of the UP government, prompting SP and Congress members to raise slogans and create a ruckus.
Protests Begin Before Session:
Even before the budget session formally started, SP and Congress members staged demonstrations against the alleged misuse of Form 7 under the SIR scheme. SP MLA Jahid Beg entered the assembly carrying placards with slogans and continued protesting throughout the Governor’s address.

The tense start of the budget session highlighted the continuing friction between the ruling BJP and opposition parties in the UP assembly.
