Rampur, Uttar Pradesh – In an unusual and chaotic incident in Shahabad locality, Rampur, a group of monkeys caused financial loss to a local resident while sparking a frenzy among neighborhood children. Hamid, a resident of Bedan Mohalla, had spread nearly ₹1 lakh on his rooftop to dry after the notes were soaked. At that moment, a troop of monkeys arrived, picked up the notes, and began tossing them from the roof.
Seeing the notes rain down, several local children rushed to grab them, and in the commotion, approximately ₹21,500 went missing. The incident quickly became the talk of the neighborhood, with locals expressing both astonishment at the monkeys’ antics and frustration at the children’s opportunistic behavior. Some even urged the children’s guardians to return the notes, but a significant portion remains unaccounted for.
Panic and Frantic Recovery
Hamid’s family member was on the roof to supervise the drying notes, but the sudden arrival of the monkeys frightened him, causing him to rush downstairs. The monkeys seized the opportunity, snatching the notes and throwing them from the roof. Within minutes, the falling currency attracted children, resulting in widespread chaos. Hamid and other residents managed to collect some of the scattered money, but by the time order was restored, ₹21,500 was still missing.
Not the First Time Monkeys Strike in Shahabad
This is not the first time monkeys in Shahabad have caused such disruption. Earlier incidents include monkeys seizing wallets from police personnel outside Kotwali and tossing the currency from trees, as well as snatching a bag containing around ₹2.5 lakh from visitors at the Tehsil office, scattering the notes across the premises.
The Rampur incident highlights the growing nuisance caused by monkeys in urban areas, as well as the unpredictable challenges residents face in protecting property from these mischievous intruders.
