Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh: Weather conditions across Uttar Pradesh shifted sharply after rainfall and strong winds brought back winter chill and dense fog in several districts. The state has been under the influence of multiple western disturbances since late January, triggering intermittent rain and fluctuating temperatures.
On Tuesday, thick morning fog was followed by dark clouds that turned daytime skies unusually gloomy. Rain showers swept parts of the state, while winds gusting up to 50 kmph intensified the cold. In Lucknow, 7 mm of rainfall was recorded, according to the Regional Meteorological Centre.
Senior scientist Atul Kumar Singh from the Lucknow Meteorological Centre said that with the western disturbance moving away, conditions are expected to turn dry from Wednesday. However, moderate to dense fog is likely in several regions during the morning hours. Fog has been reported from cities stretching from Agra and Bulandshahr to Kanpur, Ghaziabad, and Noida.
The weather department has forecast a shift to westerly winds from Wednesday, which may cause night temperatures to drop by up to 5°C over the next three days, even as daytime temperatures gradually rise. Winds of around 20 kmph are expected between February 6 and 8, keeping the chill intact despite clearer skies.
Fog is likely to persist in Lucknow and other parts of the state on February 4 and 5. Meteorologists have also indicated the possibility of another western disturbance becoming active after February 8, which could bring fresh rainfall, particularly to western Uttar Pradesh.
Rainfall has already pulled temperatures down across the state. Lucknow recorded a maximum temperature of around 20.3°C on Tuesday, while the minimum stood near 14°C. In many other districts, daytime temperatures hovered around 21°C. With clearer skies expected later, temperatures may climb past 25°C, though night temperatures could dip to 11–12°C under the influence of cold westerly winds.
