On 26 January, India celebrated its 77th Republic Day. On the same day, a small incident in Kotdwar carried a powerful message. While the incident itself was minor, it highlighted the spirit of human solidarity and courage, especially towards an elderly man facing humiliation.
At a local shop, a group of youths approached an elderly Muslim shopkeeper, objecting to the name displayed on the shopboard. Amid the confrontation, another young man stepped forward to defend the shopkeeper. When asked his name, he initially said, “Mohammad Deepak.” However, it has now been revealed that his real name is Deepak Kashyap.
What Happened on 26 January
On Republic Day, 26 January, the elderly shopkeeper, like lawyer Ahmed Roz, was seated in his shop when a few youths arrived and began questioning the shop’s name. They pressured the shopkeeper to change the name. As tensions rose, Deepak Kashyap intervened to de-escalate the situation. When the youths asked his name, he gave the name “Mohammad Deepak.” After a brief exchange, the youths left the scene. A video of the incident went viral on social media, sparking widespread debate.
Who is Deepak Kashyap?
Deepak Kashyap, who initially introduced himself as Mohammad Deepak, is a fitness trainer based in Kotdwar. He runs a gym near the Badrinath Road area. Deepak’s father has passed away, and he is married with one daughter. His mother still runs a tea stall in Kotdwar. Deepak has been involved in gym training and fitness work for over 30 years. He stated that every individual has the right to practice their faith without interference, emphasizing tolerance and respect for all religions.
