Tikamgarh (Madhya Pradesh):In a shocking incident of animal cruelty, a gaushala operator in Tikamgarh district allegedly hung the severed head of a dead calf inside a cowshed in an attempt to induce a cow to give milk. The incident has triggered widespread outrage, leading to protests and the registration of an FIR against the accused.
According to police officials, the incident took place at the cowshed of a local cattle owner, identified as Satyendra Yadav. A few days ago, the calf of a milch cow died, after which the cow stopped producing milk — a natural response observed in cattle. Disturbed by the loss of milk, the accused allegedly resorted to an inhuman act by cutting off the calf’s head and hanging it inside the gaushala to deceive the cow.
The act has been described as a gross violation of animal welfare norms and a serious criminal offence under the law.
Public Anger, Protest by Activists
As soon as the incident came to light, local residents expressed strong anger over the brutal act. Members of Bajrang Dal were informed, following which a large number of activists reached the spot and staged a protest, demanding strict action against the accused.
Protesters termed the incident as “unacceptable cruelty” and said such acts reflect growing insensitivity towards animals. They urged the administration to ensure exemplary punishment to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Police Action and FIR Registered
Upon receiving information, Kotwali police reached the scene and brought the situation under control. After preliminary investigation, police registered a case against Satyendra Yadav under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.
Police officials said the accused has been taken into custody and further legal action is underway. “The matter is being investigated seriously, and all necessary action will be taken as per law,” a senior officer said.
Cow Shifted to Safe Shelter
Keeping animal welfare in mind, the cow has been shifted to a safe location. The incident has sparked a wider debate in the city over animal safety and accountability.
Local residents and social organisations have demanded stringent punishment, stating that only strict enforcement of the law can deter individuals from committing such acts of cruelty against animals.
