Agra Hospital Owner Duped of ₹1.17 Crore, Threatened by Gang Name

Agra: In a major fraud case, a hospital owner in Agra has been cheated of ₹1.17 crore by a group of fraudsters who allegedly threatened him using the name of the notorious Lawrence Bishnoi gang. The accused lured the victim with the promise of a hotel in Pune, Maharashtra, and secured a large sum via bank transfers. When the victim demanded the money back, he was allegedly threatened with life-threatening consequences.

The victim, Ravindra Singh Baghel of Kalindi Vihar, had established a hospital named RB in Tedi Bagiya after completing his BHMS studies. His elder brother, Jarjodhan Singh, was engaged in the confectionery business in Pune when Ravindra met Ramesh Kokaramji from Kolhapur. The two began working together and developed a close relationship, with Ravindra considering Ramesh as an elder brother.

The Fraudulent Scheme
According to the victim, in 2017, Ramesh requested ₹5 lakh citing losses in his sweet shop. Ravindra transferred ₹4.5 lakh from his brother’s account. Over the years, Ramesh repeatedly borrowed money but did not return it.

In 2023, Ramesh contacted Ravindra claiming that a cheap hotel in Pune, measuring 2,500 square meters, was up for sale. He said the owner planned to move to the US and required ₹1.10 crore immediately, promising that the hotel would later be sold for ₹4 crore. Believing the claim, Ravindra transferred ₹1.17 crore from his wife’s account into accounts held by Ramesh, Umesh Bharat Kumar, and Kiran Ramchandra Phadtare.

Threats and FIR
When Ravindra sought repayment, the accused claimed the hotel owner had disappeared and threatened him, stating that if he pressed for the money, the Bishnoi gang would be sent after him. Fearful for six months, Ravindra and his family remained silent before finally filing a complaint at Trans Yamuna Police Station.

DCP City Ali Abbas confirmed that an FIR has been registered in the case. The police are investigating the threats and collecting evidence to bring the accused to justice.
