After Sector-150 Tragedy, Another ‘Death Trap’ Found in Noida Sector-22D; Builder Booked for Gross Negligence

Noida:Even after the tragic death of a young engineer in Noida Sector-150, builders continue to show shocking disregard for public safety. In a fresh incident, police and local authorities have uncovered a dangerous, water-filled excavation pit near a public road in Sector-22D of Yamuna City, describing it as a potential “death trap.”

The pit was dug for the construction of a basement by the Star City project developer, but was left completely open and unsecured for several months. Recent rainfall caused the pit to fill with water, significantly increasing the risk of a fatal accident.

Police Register Case Against Builder

Taking serious note of the hazard and the threat it posed to commuters and residents, the police registered a case against the builder and two responsible officials for criminal negligence, public endangerment, and environmental concerns.

Yamuna Gaut City Police Outpost In-charge Ashish Yadav filed the complaint late Thursday night. According to him, during routine patrolling in the Yamuna Authority area, police found that a deep excavation near the road had no barricading, warning signs, or safety arrangements.

No Safety Measures in Place

“The builder excavated a deep basement pit close to a public road and abandoned it without any fencing or protective measures. Leaving such a water-filled pit unattended for months is extremely dangerous,” a police official said.

The negligence has been attributed to the builder’s General Manager Pushkar and Project Head Pritam Singh, against whom legal action has been initiated.

Context: Sector-150 Drowning Case

The incident has raised serious questions, especially in the wake of the Sector-150 tragedy, where engineer Yuvraj Mehta drowned in a flooded basement on January 16. That incident prompted the administration to issue strict warnings to builders across Noida and Greater Noida regarding construction safety.

In the Sector-150 case, FIRs were lodged against MZ Viztown Planners Pvt Ltd and Lotus Green Construction Pvt Ltd. Two employees of Lotus Green — Ravi Bansal and Sachin Karanwal — were arrested but were later granted bail by the Chief Judicial Magistrate’s Court, with conditions including cooperation in the investigation and restrictions on foreign travel.

Growing Concern Over Builder Negligence

Despite repeated accidents and administrative action, such incidents continue to surface, highlighting systemic negligence by builders and poor compliance with safety norms.

Authorities have warned that strict action will be taken against any developer found compromising public safety, especially in areas close to roads and residential zones.
