
Visakhapatnam: India continued its dominant run in the ongoing five-match Women’s T20 series against Sri Lanka with a convincing 7-wicket victory in the second game at the ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, Visakhapatnam. Having won the first match by 8 wickets, Team India now leads the series 2-0. The third T20 is scheduled to be played on December 26 in Thiruvananthapuram.
Shafali Verma’s Explosive Knock
India’s dynamic opener, Shafali Verma, played a storming innings, scoring an unbeaten 69 runs off just 34 balls at a strike rate of 202.94. Her aggressive batting powered India to chase down the target of 129 in just 11.5 overs, losing only 3 wickets. Jemimah Rodrigues contributed 26 runs, while Smriti Mandhana and captain Harmanpreet Kaur added 14 and 10 runs respectively. For Sri Lanka, Malshi Madara, Kavya Kavindi, and Kavisha Dilhari claimed one wicket each.
Sri Lanka Struggle with the Bat
Opting to bowl first after winning the toss, India put Sri Lanka under pressure. The visitors managed only 128 runs for 9 wickets in their allotted 20 overs, with Harshita Samarawikrama top-scoring at 33 off 32 balls. Captain Chamari Atapattu made a brisk 31 off 24 deliveries, while Hasini Perera scored 22 off 28 balls. Opener Vishmi Gunaratne was dismissed for just 1 run. Overall, Sri Lanka’s top and middle order failed to make a significant impact.
Indian bowlers bowled with discipline, sharing the wickets among themselves. Shraddha Chahar and Vaishnavi Sharma took 2 wickets each, while Kranti Gaud and Sneh Rana picked up 1 wicket apiece.
With another commanding win, India is firmly in control of the T20 series, looking to continue their winning momentum in the upcoming third match.
