Sarfaraz Ahmed Under Scrutiny After Alleged Phone Use During U-19 World Cup Match

New Delhi: Former Pakistan captain Sarfaraz Ahmed has come under attention after a photograph circulating on social media appeared to show him using a mobile phone during an ICC Under-19 World Cup 2026 match between India and Pakistan.

Sarfaraz is currently serving as mentor to Pakistan’s Under-19 team. The image, widely shared online following the February 1 fixture, has sparked debate over whether ICC event regulations may have been breached.

Under ICC rules, the use of communication devices is prohibited inside the designated PMOA (Player and Match Officials Area), a restricted zone reserved for players, officials, and team staff during matches. It remains unclear whether the photograph was taken inside or outside that restricted area. No official confirmation has yet been issued regarding the circumstances.

Possible ICC Action

If it is established that the device was used within the PMOA zone, the ICC could consider disciplinary action. Potential penalties under tournament regulations may include fines or formal warnings, depending on the findings of any review. The governing body has not released an official statement at the time of publication.

Match Result

In the Super Six clash at Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo, India defeated Pakistan by 58 runs. Batting first after losing the toss, India set a target of 253. Pakistan were later bowled out for 194 while chasing.

The victory secured India’s place in the semifinals, where they are scheduled to face Afghanistan on February 4. Pakistan, needing a large-margin win to keep their semifinal hopes alive, were eliminated from contention following the defeat.
