Patna/New Delhi: Amid political controversy surrounding West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s recent meeting with the Chief Election Commissioner in Delhi, BJP leaders have intensified their criticism. However, in a strong show of support, Purnia MP Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav has come out in defence of Mamata Banerjee, comparing her to the legendary freedom fighter Rani Lakshmibai of Jhansi.
The BJP has questioned Mamata Banerjee’s visit to Delhi, alleging that her meeting with the Election Commission was politically motivated, especially when the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process is underway in West Bengal.
Pappu Yadav Calls Mamata ‘Jhansi Ki Rani’
Backing the Bengal Chief Minister, Pappu Yadav described her as fearless and combative.
“Mamata Banerjee is Jhansi Ki Rani. She is a fighter. She knows how to fight. It feels like she is the only man born in this country,” he said, while praising her political strength and resistance against her opponents.
Rani Lakshmibai, popularly remembered for her iconic words “Main apni Jhansi nahi doongi” (I will not give up my Jhansi), is widely celebrated for refusing to surrender to the British and sacrificing her life in battle.
BJP Leader Dilip Ghosh Launches Fresh Attack
Before Pappu Yadav’s remarks, BJP leader Dilip Ghosh had targeted Mamata Banerjee over her Delhi visit.
Ghosh questioned why the Chief Minister travelled to Delhi when the SIR process is being conducted in West Bengal. He alleged that Mamata Banerjee fears losing power if the revision process is conducted properly.
He further claimed that Mamata Banerjee had gone to Delhi merely to create “drama” and said that she has realised she may not be able to return to power again.
BJP Claims SIR Will Be Completed in Bengal
Dilip Ghosh asserted that the Election Commission would complete the SIR process in West Bengal just as it was done in Bihar. He claimed that similar political outcomes could be expected in Bengal as well.
