Khargone (Madhya Pradesh): Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Dr. Mohan Bhagwat on Wednesday said that India does not require any formal declaration to be called a Hindu nation, as it is a truth that already exists and does not need validation.
Drawing a powerful analogy, Bhagwat remarked, “There is no need to announce the sunrise because the sun rises from the east naturally. Similarly, there is no need to declare India a Hindu nation because it already is.”
He made these remarks while addressing a thought-provoking programme at Shri Ramakrishna Vishva Sadbhavana Niketan in Lepa village, located in the Kasrawad tehsil of Khargone district. The event was organised by the Nimar Abhyudaya Rural Management and Development Association and Shri Ramakrishna Vishva Sadbhavana Niketan under the theme ‘Nation Building Through Human Development’.
‘Indian Culture Is Based on Seva, Not Charity’
Emphasising the spiritual roots of Indian society, Bhagwat said that Indian culture is not based on the Western concept of charity, but on the deeper principle of “Seva” (selfless service).
He stated that every human being is a manifestation of the divine, therefore helping others should not be seen as an act of favour but as a moral and spiritual duty.
“Service purifies a person. Everyone must contribute to society according to their capacity,” he said.
True Happiness Cannot Come by Ignoring Others’ Pain
Bhagwat highlighted that India’s civilisational journey teaches that true happiness is not found in external material pursuits, but within the human soul.
He described compassion and sensitivity as the core qualities of humanity and added that no one can attain real happiness by ignoring the suffering of others.
Education Must Build Self-Reliance and Human Values
Speaking on the purpose of education, the RSS chief said education is meant to bring out the knowledge already present within an individual.
He cited examples of social reformers like Tantya Mama and Gadge Maharaj, stating that despite lacking formal education, their service and contribution made them respected figures in society.
Bhagwat asserted that real education is the one that promotes universal human values, encourages self-reliance, and instils the dignity of labour.
India Values Action Over Recognition
He further said that India’s nature is to respect actions more than individuals, and to focus on the authenticity and excellence of work rather than merely the results.
According to Bhagwat, true national progress is not limited to human development alone but includes the holistic development of water resources, forests, rivers, mountains, animals and human society together.
Audio Book Released During Event
During the programme, an audiobook titled ‘Gosht-Narmadalayachi’ was also released.
The event witnessed the presence of several prominent personalities, including former Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan, Padma Shri awardee Mahesh Sharma, Narmada Trust Chairman Nitin Karmakar, and nearly 300 invited guests.
