New Delhi: AIMIM chief and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi has strongly criticized China’s claim of mediating a ceasefire between India and Pakistan during Operation Sindoor. Speaking on the matter, Owaisi emphasized that India cannot remain silent on such claims and urged the Modi government to officially reject them, asserting that no third-party mediation is acceptable to India.
‘Sovereignty Cannot Be Compromised for Improved Relations’
Owaisi took to social media late Wednesday night to question the government’s stance, stating: “Following claims by the US President regarding a ceasefire and trade sanctions to ensure peace, China’s Foreign Minister has now made similar assertions. This is an insult to India, and the government must respond firmly. Any improvement in relations with China cannot come at the cost of India’s honor and sovereignty.”
Questions Raised on Government’s Approach
Owaisi, who was part of the delegation representing India globally post-Operation Sindoor, questioned whether the Modi government had agreed to such a position during the Prime Minister’s visit to China. “China seeks to equate India and Pakistan while positioning itself as dominant in South Asia. Was this what the government had consented to when the Prime Minister met Chinese officials?” he asked.
Owaisi Calls China’s Claim ‘Unacceptable’
He highlighted the contradiction in China’s role, noting that while it supplies 81% of Pakistan’s arms and provided real-time intelligence during Operation Sindoor, it now claims to have acted as a mediator. “This is unacceptable, and as a sovereign nation, India cannot take it quietly,” Owaisi asserted.
Modi Government Rejects China’s Claims
The government, on 31 December 2025, officially denied the claims made by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi regarding mediation during the India-Pakistan conflict. Officials reiterated that India’s stance against any third-party intervention remains unchanged. Previously, similar claims by the US President had also been dismissed by the government.
China’s Earlier Statement
Earlier, Wang Yi had stated that China adopted a “fair and just approach” to restore long-term peace, focusing on addressing both symptoms and root causes of the conflict. He claimed that Beijing’s measures helped mediate tensions between India and Pakistan during Operation Sindoor.
