Queen of Mewar Meets PM Modi, Wins Hearts with Simple Elegance in Red-Yellow Saree

Queen Nivrutti Kumari of Mewar is known for her understated elegance, and her recent appearance with her family while meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi proved why simplicity can be captivating. Her traditional yet classy attire offers inspiration for women looking to elevate a simple saree into a regal look.

A Royal Family in Traditional Attire

The queen visited the Parliament House alongside her husband, Laxyaraj Singh Mewar, the 77th custodian of the Mewar dynasty. While Queen Nivrutti opted for a red-and-yellow Bandhani saree with a georgette fabric and white dot patterns, Laxyaraj Singh complemented her in a golden kurta, white pajama, and black half jacket. Other family members, including Princess Mohalakshika Kumari and Praneshwari Kumari, wore elegant suits, while Prince Haritraj Singh Mewar looked charming in a white kurta-pajama with a printed red jacket. The queen’s mother, Sangita Kumari Singh Dev, and her husband, Kanak Vardhan Singh Dev, also showcased traditional yet classy outfits.

Bandhani Saree and Styling Details

The queen’s saree featured a rich red and yellow combination, with dense dot patterns along the border and pallu, enhancing its structured look. Draped traditionally over her head, the queen’s simple styling—minimal jewelry, red-and-golden bangles, stud earrings, a bindi, and sindoor—exuded grace. Her subtle makeup and understated hairstyle further highlighted the elegance of her attire.

About Bandhani Sarees

Bandhani, derived from the Sanskrit word ‘bandhna’ meaning ‘to tie,’ is created using a tie-and-dye technique. Small portions of fabric are tied with threads and dyed in vibrant shades to form unique dot patterns. Rajasthan and Gujarat are renowned for producing authentic Bandhani sarees, prized for their lightweight, classy appearance. Genuine Bandhani sarees feature slight irregularities in the dot patterns, natural dyes that do not stain when rubbed with a wet cloth, and visible patterns on the reverse side.

Queen Nivrutti Kumari’s appearance exemplifies how traditional Indian attire can be simple, elegant, and regal, inspiring women to embrace cultural heritage with style.
