Renowned actor and social activist Sonu Sood has reacted with deep anguish to the tragic suicide of three minor sisters in Ghaziabad. He highlighted the mounting pressures of social media and online gaming on children and stressed the urgent need for intervention.
The incident, which shocked the entire nation, involved three sisters taking their lives by jumping from the ninth floor of a building. Reports suggest that the girls, aged 12, 14, and 16, were addicted to a Korean online game on their mobile phones. Through his social media posts, Sonu Sood urged society to recognize the severe risks of digital addiction and stressed that children need guidance, not algorithms.
Sood, who had previously called for restrictions on social media and online gaming for children under 16, reiterated his demand, emphasizing that action must be taken immediately.
Sonu Sood’s Statement:
“Today, three young lives were lost in Ghaziabad—not to poverty or violence, but to the unseen pressures of online gaming and digital addiction. I have raised my voice before, and I am raising it again. Except for educational purposes, social media and online gaming should be banned for children under 16. Childhood requires guidance, not algorithms.”
He further added, “Children need care, not endless hours in front of screens. This is not about blaming anyone—it is about safety. We must act before it’s too late. Let this not become another tragic story that fades from memory. Now is the time to take action.”
Details of the Tragic Incident
The incident occurred in the Teela Mod area of Ghaziabad. The victims were Nishika (16), Prachi (14), and Pakhi (12). According to reports, the girls were addicted to a Korean task-based interactive game, which instructed players to isolate themselves, ignore family members, and ultimately culminated in suicidal tasks. Their parents had tried to curb their mobile usage in recent days, which reportedly caused additional stress for the girls.
Call for Policy Change
Sonu Sood has been advocating for a ban on social media and online games for children under 16. Following Australia’s move in December 2025 to restrict social media access for minors, he urged the Indian government to implement similar protective measures to safeguard children’s mental health. Sood emphasized that children deserve a true childhood, strong family bonds, and freedom from digital addiction.
