JEE Main Result 2026: Up to 6 Questions May Be Dropped; Here’s How Marks Will Be Awarded

New Delhi / February 12, 2026: The National Testing Agency (NTA) has announced that the JEE Main 2026 Session 1 results will be declared on Monday, February 16, 2026, four days later than originally scheduled. Sources say the delay is due to a thorough review of objections raised against the provisional answer key.

Final Answer Key and Dropped Questions
The NTA had invited objections to the provisional answer key until February 6. Questions challenged by students were reviewed by a panel of experts. According to sources, at least six questions from Session 1 may be dropped after expert evaluation.

Students should note that all dropped questions will be awarded full marks, irrespective of whether they attempted them or not. The agency has confirmed that this decision prioritizes student interests, ensuring fairness in scoring.

What Does a Dropped Question Mean?
A question is “dropped” when it contains an unresolvable error, such as a typo or incorrect data, making it impossible to correct. Once dropped, all candidates in that exam shift receive full marks for that question. This may occur due to errors in translation, misprinted data, or typographical mistakes in the question.

Exam Statistics and Security Measures
The first session of JEE Main 2026 saw over 13 lakh students appear out of 13,63,900 registered candidates. The exam for B.E. and B.Tech admissions was conducted over five days in ten shifts. NTA officials confirmed that strict monitoring was maintained at exam centers, from entry to completion, ensuring smooth conduct of the exams.

JEE Main 2026 Session 2 Registration
Registrations for JEE Main 2026 Session 2 are ongoing and will close on February 25, 2026. Following the declaration of Session 1 results, a surge in applications is expected. Students can attempt either or both sessions, with the best score considered for final ranking. Session 2 exams are scheduled to be held between April 2 and April 9, 2026.
