Another Close Associate of Ratan Tata Exits Tata Trusts; Term Ends February 11

Amid ongoing upheaval at Tata Trusts, another close associate of the late industrialist Ratan Tata is stepping down. Pramit Jhaveri will be resigning from his position as a trustee on the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust board. Jhaveri, who was appointed to the board in February 2020 when Ratan Tata was chairman, has decided not to seek reappointment after his current term ends on February 11, 2026.

Official Communication

In a letter addressed to Noel Tata, chairman of Tata Trusts, Jhaveri stated that he has served as a trustee since February 12, 2020, a responsibility entrusted to him by the late Ratan Tata. He mentioned that he had discussed his decision with Noel Tata beforehand and is now formally notifying the board. Jhaveri described his tenure as an honor and extended his best wishes for the future of Tata Trusts. Copies of the letter were also sent to other trustees of the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust and CEO Siddharth Sharma.

Background

The Sir Dorabji Tata Trust is one of the primary philanthropic arms of the Tata Group and holds a significant stake in Tata Sons, the group’s holding company. Jhaveri joined the board at a time when Ratan Tata was still actively overseeing the trust’s operations. Together with the Sir Ratan Tata Trust, the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust controls over 51% of Tata Sons’ shares, highlighting its pivotal role in the governance and philanthropy of the Tata Group.

Jhaveri’s exit comes at a time when the trust is undergoing a phase of notable restructuring and leadership changes, marking the end of an era for one of Ratan Tata’s closest associates.
