Why Didn’t India Speak Up? Zelensky Criticizes PM Modi Over Russia Drone Attack Remarks

Kyiv: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has criticized India, accusing it of adopting a double standard regarding the ongoing conflict with Russia. The remarks come after Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed concern over reports of a drone attack on Russian President Vladimir Putin’s residence. Ukraine denied any such attack had taken place.

Zelensky Accuses India of Double Standards
During an online press conference, Zelensky said, “Honestly, it is confusing and unfortunate that India, the UAE, and some other countries condemned our alleged drone attacks on President Putin’s residence, which never occurred.” He added, “But where is their condemnation for attacks on our children and the killing of civilians over such a long period? I have not heard this from India or the UAE.”

PM Modi’s Statement
On December 29, Russia claimed that Ukraine attempted to attack Putin’s residence in the Novgorod region using 91 drones. In response, Prime Minister Modi posted on X, expressing that he was “deeply concerned” about reports of an attack targeting President Putin’s residence. He emphasized that ongoing diplomatic efforts remain the best path to ending hostilities and achieving peace and urged all parties to avoid actions that could undermine these initiatives.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Also Responds
Earlier, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha expressed disappointment and concern over India, UAE, and Pakistan’s reactions, calling the reports baseless. In a post on X, he stated, “Nearly a day has passed, and Russia has yet to provide credible evidence of the alleged attack on Putin’s residence. They will not, because no such evidence exists. No such attack took place.” Zelensky also dismissed the drone attack claims and accused Russia of sabotaging peace talks.
