Islamabad / New Delhi, 25 November 2025:
A strong political uproar has erupted in Pakistan after Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh suggested that “Sindh may one day reunite with India.” His statement, delivered during a public event, has provoked sharp reactions, especially from Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, who condemned the remark as “irresponsible” and “delusional.”
Rajnath Singh had said:
“Civilizationally, Sindh will always remain a part of India… borders can change anytime, and who knows — Sindh may return to India in the future.”
Sindh CM Strongly Reacts: ‘Stop Daydreaming’
In a social media statement, Sindh CM Murad Ali Shah criticised Rajnath Singh and asked him to “stop daydreaming.”
He added:
“Sindh is an integral part of Pakistan — inseparable and permanent. It was, is, and will remain a part of Pakistan.”
Murad Ali Shah also attempted to give a history lesson, asserting that Sindh became a separate province in 1936, even before Pakistan was formed. He said the people of Sindh have always protected their cultural identity, political autonomy, and heritage, and would reject any external interference.
Political Heat in Pakistan Intensifies
Rajnath Singh’s remarks have acted like a spark in a dry forest, spreading rapidly across Pakistan’s political circles. The reaction has been heated because several provinces — including Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Sindh — have long been dealing with separatist movements and demands for greater autonomy or independence.
Several Pakistani leaders have expressed alarm, accusing India of encouraging separatist sentiments.
‘This Was No Random Statement’: Indian Military Expert
Speaking to Navbharat Times on the condition of anonymity, a senior Indian military expert said that Rajnath Singh was fully aware that his comments would go viral internationally.
The expert remarked:
“A leader like Rajnath Singh knows the impact of every sentence he speaks. If he has chosen to make such a statement, there must be strategic reasons behind it.”
He noted that separatist protests in Sindh occur frequently, and any comment related to the region immediately stirs debate inside Pakistan.
What Rajnath Singh Actually Said
At the event, Rajnath Singh emphasised India’s civilizational links with Sindh and added:
“Civilizationally, Sindh will forever remain a part of India… boundaries can change, and no one knows if Sindh may rejoin India someday.”
He further stated that Sindhi Hindus have still not accepted the fact that Sindh became part of Pakistan.
